What is the average salary for a Level 3 Teaching Assistant?
A Level 3 TA salary could be up to £25,000 per annum, depending on your experience. If you want to boost your salary, extra qualifications that enable you to work with learners with complex needs will always be looked upon favourably as there is a high demand for teaching assistants with these skills.

If you work in a state school, your salary will be in line with relevant government pay scales, but you might be able to earn more in schools not run by the local authority. Remember also that the salary quoted is full-time and that the take-home pay for many teaching assistants will be lower due to part-time hours and term-time only contracts.

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements, however, learners should have a minimum of Level 2 in literacy or equivalent. Learners should be keen to work in the sector to support teaching and learning in schools.

They should also have attention to detail and be willing to work in a team environment, whilst also being willing to work using their own initiative when required.

There may be a requirement, by their employer, for learners to be checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service or if they intend to work with learners who are covered by these regulations (formerly Criminal Records Bureau CRB).

It is the learner’s responsibility to seek advice from their employer regarding this.

UNIT NO 1 Communication and Professional Relationship with Children and Young People

This unit focuses on the skills and knowledge required to effectively communicate and build professional relationships with children and young people in an educational setting.

UNIT NO 2 Schools as Organisations

This unit provides an understanding of how schools are organised, including their structures, roles, responsibilities and educational policies.

UNIT NO 3 Understand Child and Young Person Development.

This unit covers the stages of development of children and young people, understanding the impact of external factors on their development and recognising the diverse needs of individual learners.

UNIT NO 4 Understand How to Safeguard the Wellbeing of Children and Young People.

This unit is dedicated to the policies and practices involved in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, including understanding potential risks and how to respond to safeguarding concerns.
