This apprenticeship is suitable for someone who us looking to take up a role in motor vehicle and service technicians. This is the industry standard if you want to become a car mechanic and work on “light Vehicles” (Cars). HGV have a separate dedicated qualification that can be found on our website.*
This qualification covers the technical needs of today’s motor vehicle repair industry, working on all types of light vehicles.
It’s ideal for anyone looking to be a vehicle technician or MOT tester.
Covering all light vehicle technologies students will be expected to carry out practical diagnostic fault-finding tasks. As a practical-based course, it provides the essential knowledge to be a service technician working on cars and vans in all types of garages, dealerships, and maintenance depot.
There are also opportunities to undertake air-conditioning, and potential to upskill to be able to work on EV and hybrid vehicles to further enhance your employability. Where can I progress next?

Entry requirements
Individual employers will set the selection criteria for the applicant. It is recommended during the selection process that the Apprentice demonstrates the following qualities:
- Interested in motor vehicles - General analytical and mechanical skills - Research and problem solving skills - Organised, methodical and good attention to detail - Good communication skills, both oral and written - Works as part of a team to deliver excellent service
You must have gained or be working towards GCSE 4-9 or above (or accredited equivalent) in Maths, English and a science or technical subject.
