Do you want to learn to become a mechanic? This course is designed for those that wish to start a career in the automotive industry working on cars. The technology of the modern motor vehicle has advanced rapidly during the last two decades. This Level 1 course will be the starting point for those who have yet to achieve their GCSE grades. During this course you will develop the basic skills to work and maintain the modern light vehicle, whilst also supporting you gaining English and maths core skills, which are required to move on to the Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair. Where can I progress next?
After completing all aspects of the course successfully, you will have the opportunity to progress on to one of our Level 2 courses: Diploma in Light Vehicle maintenance and Repair Principles at our Bordesley Green or Bournville Campuses, Diploma in Accident Repair Body and Paint Principles at our Bordesley Green Campus or Diploma in Motor Sport Maintenance and Repair at our Bournville Campus.

Entry requirements
Due to advances in technology within the automotive industry, it is important to recognise the complexity of the modern motor vehicle. With this qualification, we are looking for a learner that can demonstrate good mechanical comprehension, mechanical ability, and the willingness to learn. A good, basic understanding of the technology involved in the modern light vehicle is ideal. With this, we also expect to see learners with GCSE grades 2 and above in Maths and English or a Functional skills in both of these at Level 1 or above. Learners are expected to work towards a Grade 4 or Level 2 Functional Skills during this course to best prepare them for progressing to the full level 2 Diploma. Don't worry, we have other motor vehicle provisions for learners that don't quite make the entry requirements at other campuses.
