Are you a recent school leaver or an adult looking to train to become a qualified motor vehicle technician/ mechanic? This one-year Level 2 course will develop your skills and understanding of the modern light vehicle. After completing this course, you will naturally progress to the Level 3 Diploma which will advance your understanding, skills and knowledge to increase your career prospects. If you are 16-18, you will continue to build your skills in English and maths.
Where can I progress next?

Upon successfully completing this course, you will naturally progress to the Level 3 Diploma. This will enhance your understanding of the skills and knowledge you have developed during Level 2 and will delve more deeply into the systems of the modern vehicle.

Due to advances in technology within the automotive industry, it is important to recognise the complexity of the modern motor vehicle. With this qualification, we are looking for a learner that can demonstrate good mechanical comprehension, mechanical ability, and the willingness to learn. A good, basic understanding of the technology involved in the modern light vehicle is ideal. Have completed and passed your level 1 diploma. With this, we also expect to see learners with GCSE grades 4 and above in Maths and English or a Functional skills in both of these at Level 2 or above.

Learners are expected to work towards a Grade 5 or Level 3 Functional Skills during this course to best prepare them for progressing to the full level 3 Diploma.

Don't worry, we have other motor vehicle provisions for learners that don't quite make the entry requirements at other campuses.

SYLLABUS

You will acquire skills and knowledge in health, safety, supporting working relationships, materials, fabrication, tools, and measuring devices. The course also includes topics such as routine light vehicle maintenance, removal and replacement of combustion engine units, mechanical, lubrication, and cooling systems, as well as fuel, ignition, air, and exhaust systems. Additionally, the curriculum covers transmission, driveline units, chassis components, and electrical units in light vehicles.
